Cucina Nassi

About a year ago, the owners of the Cucina Toscana added yet another gem to Sugarhouse: Cucina Nassi. They wanted  to add a catering arm to their award-winning downtown restaurant, and decided this would be the perfect spot.

This building, located on 1100 East, between Whole Foods and the library, used to be a furniture store, but sat empty for years. When I visited, they were preparing for a wedding luncheon, but they were still kind enough to give me a tour.

They've clearly invested long-term into making this a premier location for events in the area. The main floor can host three separate events, and there's an upstairs room that is also available. Check them out at www.cucinanassi.com

Kalaches

I went in to Johnny Kalaches for the first time a few weeks ago. This is another example of a small business owner fixing up a run-down building and bringing it back to life- not that they turned it into a fancy, high-end place, or anything. What they did, however, is create a fun place to grab breakfast or lunch with some friends or coworkers. Their friendly staff serve these meat-filled buns that are sweet and soft and addicting.
